VCE Science Professional Development Day

Ecolinc is offering a fantastic professional development opportunity for VCE teachers on Friday 4th December to learn more about the new VCE study designs in Year 11 in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Environmental Science in 2016. Maria James, Science Curriculum Manager at VCAA, will be the keynote speaker. Maria will provide an overview of the changes to the VCE study designs for Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science and Physics and discuss the implications of these changes for classroom teaching and assessment practices. In addition, Maria will lead a couple of workshops throughout the day about the use of posters in assessing extended investigations. Ecolinc will also lead a number of workshops outlining our VCE programs for 2016. Cost $80.00.

9.30am: Keynote Presentation – Maria James VCAA

WHAT'S NEW WITH THE REVISED VCE SCIENCE STUDIES?

This session will provide an overview of changes to the VCE study designs for Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science and Physics. An interactive discussion session will provide opportunities for teachers to think about the implications of the changes for classroom teaching and assessment practices.

Workshop 1A:  Maria James –  The use of posters in assessing Biology extended investigations

This hands-on session will enable participants to work with sample experimental data and images to discuss scientific poster construction. A sample rubric will be provided which participants will use to assess posters. Implementation issues associated with the use of scientific posters as a formative and summative assessment tool will also be discussed.
